Taking the 5th.
The Club for Growth has just purchased $250,000 of airtime to run this Mitchell ad.
Here's the background and text.
Today, Club for Growth.Net released a television ad throughout Arizona's Fifth Congressional District. The $250,000 ad buy will run on broadcast television in the Phoenix market.
This ad seeks to educate Arizona taxpayers about Rep. Harry Mitchell's long career of voting for higher taxes. No matter what position he served in-whether as mayor, state senator, or congressman, Harry Mitchell has consistently supported a higher tax burden.
As mayor of Tempe, Mitchell supported higher property taxes both in 1992 and 1993. As state senator, Mitchell voted against property tax relief twice in 2005. And as a congressman, Mitchell voted for at least four tax hikes in his short two years in Congress. When people in Arizona see this ad and learn about Mitchell's abysmal record on taxes, hopefully they will call Harry Mitchell and urge him to vote for lower taxes, especially in these tough economic times.
"Harry Mitchell has been involved in politics for over two decades, and he has consistently supported higher taxes on Arizona citizens," said Club for Growth.Net President Pat Toomey. "It is important to run this ad so that Arizona taxpayers learn about Harry Mitchell's record and call him and tell him to vote for lower taxes."
On the other hand, he's working so hard to protect us from those dangerous stenographers at the Congressional Record!
That battle must be keeping him too distracted to do anything else, like lower taxes...

Too little, too late. The combination of a 5-way primary, a toxic year for Republicans, and the negative ads from Bitter Smith and the DCCC have put this to bed for Harry.

Wow Bill...
Is the sky falling... or are you another blogosphere sage that claims to have the inside info...
The DCCC is getting desperate as the attacks on Schweikert become less and less based in reality...
Harry Mitchell is Pelosi's lap dog and this sellout, I mean bailout vote will be his deathnail...
Schweikert will win by 3 points...

A waste of money if you ask me. The people of the district know Mitchell and will cross party lines to elect him. And that's in pretty much ANY year, let along this one. They should have spent their money in CD-1.

Patrick is correct. We know Mitchell and we want someone bi-partisan. Our district doesnt like to Hayworth(less) representing us.
