And the Republican candidates are????? I haven't heard hide or hair from any of them.

Greg, I know you don't blog heavily about the ACC, but someone has to say something about preserving continuity in the institution. When they went from three to five members a few years ago, it was to maintain a balance between the past and the future. With 4 year terms, staggered, there's a measure of consistency. Which is a good thing for any regulatory agency.

No one can help that 3/5ths are being termed out, but I can't think Mayes voluntarily abandoning her post for some pretty selfish (if not absurd) reason can be good for the rest of us.

Trust me, Longtime fan, Mayes leaving is VERY good for us. Now replacing 4 out of 5 may not do much for stability (and we'll miss Gleason), but getting rid of the current bunch is going to be good for Arizona.

Yes, Ms. Mayes departure is cheered by many!!

Running for Congress is a selfish, possibly absurd reason? You might not like her candidacy, in which case you shouldn't vote for her, but stepping up for public service shouldn't be considered selfish or absurd. I think Greg could testify to that.

Resigning from one office to run for another is selfish and absurd. Period. And it happens all the time. Running for any office is usually about ambition and power, not selflessnsess and charity. Take a look at the Constitution, or even some history book or parable or fable, it's right in there somewhere.

After I wrote those comments, Mayes ended her exploratory for reasons strangely similar to the ones I gave. That's just eery. I should do this for a living.
