Jack Hart's column about the Kyl vs. Pederson race for Senate borders on the ridiculous. He asserts that Arizonans can only be 50% sure that the race will be clean because his chosen candidate - Senator Kyl - is "clean" and "gentlemanly." Spare me, Jack. Kyl has had no reason to be anything but a gentleman. Two cakewalks into a U.S. Senate seat don't exactly harden the spirit for heated battles. Hart puts the onus of a "clean campaign" on Jim Pederson while giving Jon Kyl a free pass because the incumbent is just so darn warm and cuddly.
This is going to be a tough campaign and at some point late next summer the gloves will come off. A race for U.S. Senate between a married-to-the-adminstration-no-matter-how-wrong-they-are incumbent and a tough, well-funded challenger should be bare-kunckle politics. If that's too much for Hart or Kyl to handle...so be it.
As one tough Democrat said many years ago, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
