The recent denial of a diploma to a high school senior because he was wearing a bolo tie is ridiculous. School administrators
are apparently blisfully ignorant of cultures other than their own. They should
move to correct the situation immediately. Also, remarks made by
spokeswoman Katie O'Malley-Simpson
should be retracted. She is not only out-of-touch with other cultures and
even American history, but she does a disservice to the school district, parents and students with her
insensitive remarks during what should be a time of celebration for all
of the students, not just the chosen few whose dress she and other school
officials deem diploma-worthy.
The case against Coldplay article makes some relevant points, but dismisses the talent and songwriting skills of this blockbuster band.
Granted, there are things about all bands which may not meet our high
expectations, yet focusing on Coldplay's negatives means overlooking
the long list of qualities this band brings to the table.
